An Auburn police officer was sentenced Thursday to more than 16 years in prison for the 2019 shooting death of a homeless man outside a convenience store. A jury found Auburn police Officer Jeffrey Nelson guilty in June of second-degree murder and first-degree assault for fatally shooting Jesse Sarey as he tried to arrest him for disorderly conduct.
